WHAT DO I INCLUDE IN MY LETTER?
1. Opening sentence - state why this is important to you personally
2. Highlight your concerns such as some, or all, of these key issues:
pollution (feces, antibiotics, anti lice etc - see dirty dozen)
conflict of use with residences, recreational use - boating, beaches, etc.
impact on lobster and lobster fishers
degradation of tourism offering (our ocean playground and water based experiences)
risk of die offs and escapes that continue regardless of efforts to mitigate these
other aspects that concern you personally - see resources for more information
3. Encourage a positive way forward for Nova Scotia through land based aquaculture that is available from our own local company, .... and other companies that are emerging around the world.
4. Closing comments - Open Pen fish farms have a detrimental impact with minimal economic benefit.
